ARE YOU HEALTHY OR PSEUDO HEALTHY?

You are probably attempting all the ways to live up to a ‘healthy’ lifestyle, but are still struggling to get appropriate results, and are wondering on where exactly are you missing the mark? Or you may weigh just right on the weighing scale or look perfectly in shape, but does it mean that you are completely healthy?

We are continuously being bombarded with various kinds of information on a healthy lifestyle- from food to exercise, everyone seems to have a different opinion. And amidst this chaos, there are chances that you might end up following or living a pseudo-healthy lifestyle that might seem healthy, but is actually sabotaging your health goals.

The chances of you being pseudo-healthy are more if you are doing the following things-

You eat processed vegetarian or vegan food

There are many benefits of following a vegetarian or vegan diet. However, if your vegetarian or vegan diet mostly comprises of processed foods, you are doing more harm to yourself than good. Processed food consists of preservatives and they have a lot of fatty acids. The only way in which a vegetarian/ vegan diet can help you is if you do it properly, and stuffing yourself with chips, candies, bread, and white rice is definitely not one.

You consume a lot of canned, packaged food

Understand that even canned or packaged fruits and vegetables are full of preservatives and also absorb chemicals from the cans they are stored in. So if you think that the nutritious value of a canned vegetable is as good as the organic one, you are wrong. Which is why there is this accepted consciousness on choosing fresh, organic food.

Anything that says ‘sugar-free’ and ‘diet’ is good to go

We all go gala over food that says ‘sugar-free’ or ‘diet’ thinking that it is extremely healthy and can be eaten in large quantities without worrying about the health consequences. However, such foods are usually full of artificial sweeteners and chemicals, which are not very good for your health. Make sure that you read the ingredients before buying any processed food. The longer and unpronounceable the names of the ingredients, the greater are the chances of them being unhealthy.

Calories over nutrition

If you obsess over your calorie intake more than your nutrition, you need to stop. Many essential nutrients that your body requires can come from foods that are high on calories.

Exercising or healthy diet gives you a free-ticket

Hate to break this to you, but it’s not true. Exercising is great for your body but it doesn’t give you a free-ticket onto eating everything and anything you want to. Your body functions depend largely on the kind of food you eat.

The reverse of this is also not true. Thinking that, just because you eat healthy food, you don’t have to exercise, is wrong. Your body needs exercise for various reasons. A physical movement of at least 30 minutes is necessary for good health.

The process of becoming a ‘healthier’ you could seem overwhelming and difficult. However, with stress on the right things, like cutting down on processed food, increasing the consumption of organic food and regular exercising, you could get there a little sooner.
